Objective: The aim of the present study is to know about occupational therapy of long-term care.
Methods: An systematic search in MEDLINE until January 2001 to October 2009 was performed. RCT(Randomized Controlled Trial), CCT(Controled Clinical Trials), OD(efficacy studies with either a controlled or an other than controlled design) and Cohorts designs were included. PubMed databases were searched using key terms relating to "long-term care" and "occupational therapy".
Results: 8 studies were included, RCT(n=1) 12.5%, CCT(n=3) 37.5%, and OD(n=4) 50.0% in the review. In the all of included studies, the ADL traing was the biggest part of occupational therapy. The using rate was 20.0% of ADL training, 10.0% of Quality of Life(QOL), perception of life, cognition, perception, oral hygien, behavior control, feeding and music therapy.
Conclusion: Although the ADL training is widely used in the result. There was lack of evidence that occupational therapy in long-term care was effective for progress. Future well-designed clinical trials is needed.
